As the nights start drawing in and the temperature starts to drop it’s true that the winter months can be a bit of a shock to our wellbeing and overall health. The darker evenings, less sunlight and therefore lack of vitamin D and colder temperatures can affect our mood, our skin and of course our immune system. B

Here are some tips for looking after yourself and making winter an indulgent, fun time of year.

STAY HYDRATED

Lots of us find it harder to stay hydrated during the winter months, a natural reduction in our thirst levels is normal but it can be all too easy to become a little dehydrated without even realising it!

If just drinking water isn’t really working for you try adding some fresh fruit or lemons/cucumber in a jug and pop it in the fridge for a few hours. Alternatively a range of herbal teas can add some nice variety and they’re a great way to warm yourself at the same time. Plus, they could even boost your nutrition too!

BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY

Getting some more nutrients into our diet can be a good idea over the winter months. It’s always an important part of your health but it might be a good idea to give it a little extra attention now. Eating plenty of colourful fruits and vegetables is a great move, especially for Vitamin C and antioxidants, which are immunity boosters. You might also want to load upon herbs & spices like ginger, turmeric, garlic and chilli as well as finding some good ways of boosting your vitamin D intake either through your diet or maybe even adding a supplement into your routine.

CLEAR YOUR HEAD

The winter months can bring congestion and fuzzy heads, even if you don’t get ill.

Regular steaming can unblock your sinuses and clear your mind but menthol crystals won’t always cut it.

BATH TIME

There’s nothing better than relaxing in a warm bath on cold winter nights, the warmth does wonders for our muscles, joints and soft tissue to release some of tension that builds up naturally when our bodies are in colder weather.
